What are Drake and Kanye West Up To With Their Joint Project?

Drake and Kanye West have been dropping hints about a joint project, one that has the potential to be a full length collaboration between 2 of the best known rappers anywhere around the globe. Both have been involved in individual collaborations with other artists but now it appears that the rap duo may be teaming up together. In 2011 West teamed with Jay Z for Watch The Throne, and in 2015 Drizzy partnered with Future on What A Time To Be Alive. West and the Toronto rapper have also paired up on tracks in the past, such as Pop Style and Forever by Drake and Blessings by Big Sean just to name some.

During OVO Fest in August, the signature music festival held by Drake’s OVO Sound, Kanye first started dropping hints. West questioned the crowd, asking fans “I got one question for you… Is y’all ready for this album? I’m not talking about Pablo. I wasn’t talking about Views. I wanna ask y’all right now, y’all ready for this album?” Drizzy added clarification by telling the crowd “What my brother was asking before was, are you ready if we make an album? That’s what he was asking.”

Next billboards that paired the OVO Sound logo and the G.O.O.D. Music logo together started to show up, with the billboards containing random phrases around the Calabasas neighborhood where both rappers have residences. Hopefully fans will get to hear some sneak previews of what West and Drake are working on in the near future. In the meantime Drizzy and Taylor Swift have been very chummy, and some have been concerned that this could be a deal breaker for West or that it means Rihanna is no longer the love of Drake’s life, but both of these worries seem blown out of proportion.

Kid Cudi’s Comments on Drake and Kanye West’s Songwriters Throws Shade

Kid Cudi isn’t holding back in his criticism of the songwriting industry, going so far as to name Drake and Kanye West in his Twitter tirade. West was Cudi’s former boss at the G.O.O.D. Music label but that did not stop Kid from sharing his criticism of Kanye. Cudi started throwing shade with the tweet “I need yall to know I got so many haters within the industry and these clowns know Im bout to crush their entire existance.” Kid did not stop there though, and he called out the Toronto rapper as well as West for having “30 people [to] write songs for them”. Name dropping was also achieved when Cudi named Kanye and Drizzy both, taking aim at the style of writing that West first used for his album “808s and Heartbreaks”. When Kid left the G.O.O.D. Music label in 2013 the artist cited a need for separation from West “just from a business standpoint.” Is the latest shade simply spoiled grapes or does the Kid have a point?

Fans Excited About Confirmation That Drake and Kanye West are Collaborating Together on a Bunch of Music

Many fans have had musical dreams of a collaboration between Drake and Kanye West, and until now these dreams have been unfulfilled but that could change quickly. Few believed that a new album that featured both Drizzy and Yeezy would come about but both artists recently confirmed that they have been working together on a lot of music. The 6 God is in the middle of an enormous tour with fellow rapper Future, the Summer Sixteen tour, and Kanye is incredibly busy with his music and also his fashion career with the debut of the Yeezy Season 4 collection.

During a recent Vogue interview West explained that “We’re just working on music, working on a bunch of music together, just having fun going into the studio. We’re working on an album, so there’s some exciting things coming up soon.” Some fans expected a collaboration after Kanye discussed the topic at OVO Fest last month, with West telling the crowd “Toronto, I got one question for you. Is y’all ready for this album?” Kanye shared with the crowd. “Now, I’m not talking about Pablo. I wasn’t talking about Views. I wanna ask y’all right now, y’all ready for THIS album?”

Collaboration rumors between the two well known musicians became even stronger after a billboard was unveiled in the Los Angeles area with a message n the green background that stated “Calabasas is the new Abu Dhabi.” At the bottom of the billboard the logo for Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Musc and the iconic OVO Sound logo were featured together. No release date for any collaboration has been revealed so far but fans are eagerly waiting.

Did You Know These Songs Were Written by Drake?

Drake has a very extensive discography, with a wide range of genres and styles to his credit, but there are some songs that you probably did not realize were written by the Toronto rapper because they are performed by other artists. 6 songs that were actually written by Drizzy include:

 1. Melania Fiona – I’ve Been That Girl

When the 6 God was still just a struggling artist working on DeGrassi High and making the show into a cult hit this wasn’t all he was doing. Drake also performed as part of The Renaissance, a group that created music. The band did not go anywhere but “I’ve Been That Girl” did. Drizzy co-wrote the song with Melania Ford, who performs it on her LP The Melania Ford Life.

2.Kanye West- Facts, 30 Hours, and Father Stretch My Hands

Life of Pablo, the 7th studio album by Kanye West, includes credit to Drake for songwriting but many may have missed this fact. The album lists Drizzy as a co-writer for the tracks Facts and 30 Hours. A tweet from West gave praise to the Toronto rapper, stating , “I wanna thank my brother Drizzy for helping me on 30 Hours & Father Stretch My Hands. Drake would come by and just help, no strings. Future also came by to write. We all got new shit together that’s gonna drop soon.”

3.Rita Ora- R.I.P.

In the beginning songstress Rita Orr needed tracks to gain attention and make her an international sensation in the world of pop music, and Drake came to the rescue by co-writing R.I.P. Some speculated that Drizzy intended the track for Ri-Ri but Orr said that this was not true in a Sunday Times interview in 2012. “R.I.P. wasn’t written for Rihanna. But even if it was played to her, I don’t care. As soon as I heard it, I said it was mine. I was going to fight for that song.”

4.Beyonce- Mine

The 6 God and Queen Bey wrote Mine together, with some help from Majid Jordan and Noah “40” Shebib of the OVO crew. This track was featured on the self titled album that Beyonce released in 2013 and it became a big hit.

5. Alicia Keys- Un-thinkable (I’m Ready)

Many do not realize that the hit 2010 album The Element of Freedom released by Alicia Keys contains Drake’s influence in the track Un-thinkable (I.m Ready). When discussing this hit that he co-wrote Drizzy explained to BET “It is [about Minaj], I’m not gonna lie …The concept came from a conversation that we had, or conversations we have. I wrote it based off two things: Number one, based off that, and then two, based off Alicia and Swizz and their situation, and it just seemed fitting. It was like the perfect concept.”

6.Jamie Foxx- Fall For Your Type

Jamie Foxx was so impressed when he heard the track Drake wrote called Fall For Your Type that the actor and singer decided to re-record the song and make it into a single on his fourth album Best Night of My Life. Many do not realize that Foxx is a singer as well as an actor, and he does Drizzy’s track justice.

Tyga and Drake Bury Beef with a Little Help from Kanye West

Few have missed the beef between Drake and Tyga, although many are still not sure what happened or why the two were beefing in the first place. YMCMB did not do great in the year 2015, that was no secret, and the tension between Lil Wayne and Birdman caused some to question whether the label could move forward and stay viable with all of the infighting that went on. The fight between Tyga and Drake was ended during the latest Kanye West fashion show, when West made the two address their issues.

When Tyga talked about the Drake feud with Los Angeles’Real 92.3 during an interview the young Kardashian paramour and rapper in his own right and explained that West put the two in a room and demanded that they squash their differences. Tyga said “Ain’t no tension… We cool. We on good terms. He put us in a room together when he was doing his fashion show… We gave each other a hug and just chopped it up… If somebody’s not taking anything away from you, your family or from your money then you should never have a problem, as a man.” Tyga even tweeted this post on social media “If somebody’s not taking anything away from you, your family or from your then you should never have a problem, as a man.” @Tyga. Maybe Kanye could step in and work with Drake and Chris Brown now, because that is a feud that doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

Kanye West Discusses Personal Inspiration from Drake’s Success with the Oxford Guild Society

In March Kanye West addressed the Oxford Guild Society, and he talked about how important collaboration is and the people who have personally inspired him. In a video of the speech that was finally released on December 7, 2015 West the society members “One of my biggest problems, one of my biggest Achille’s heels has been my ego. And if I, Kanye West, the very person, can remove my ego, I think there’s hope for everyone.”

During the speech Kanye also credited Drake as a person who helped West readjust his thought patterns, and stated to the audience “I think that that’s been a progression of mind with the advent of a human being named Drake. You know, this idea of holding onto a #1 spot. And then you get this guy that comes and blows out the water every #1 of any band ever. Be it me or Paul McCartney. And at the point, you know, when you’ve lost the idea of holding onto that concept, you can leave the mountaintop finally, and walk down, and readjust, and see what your position on earth can be.”

In 2014 Drake managed to pass even The Beatles in music history, and in March of this year Drake was tied for the most singles charting at a time when he had 14 singles on the Blillboards Hot 100 chart. Drake has seen 100 of his songs hit this chart. In 2011 the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album went to Kanye West for his album titles My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. In 2012 Drake won the very same award for his album Take Care.

According to his speech to the Oxford Guild Society Kanye West has found a clear focus and a sense of purpose in his life, and he believes that the 2013 album he released titled Yeezus shows his transformation. West explained “I’ve had all of these mixed emotions, mixed feelings, based off you know, bigotries, walls, perceptions that I’ve had to deal with. Ones that drove me to titles like ‘Black Skinhead’ or ‘I Am A God.’ Now I understand that I’m a servant. And with my voice, and with the information and my ability to build relationships with amazing people, speak to amazing people.”

Ma$e Would Consider Signing With Drake Or Kanye West

Ma$se was interviewed by Sway from MTV’s Rap Fix Live yesterday and during their interview, Ma$e spoke on who he was considering on signing with. Ma$e has a history of having some pretty botched contract deals, so he’s really trying to make sure if he did sign it’s the right move. He mentions that he would consider either signing to Drake (October’s Very Own) or Kanye West. Ma$e goes on to say, “I think he’s the closest to what I believe I woulda been if I didn’t leave music” about Drake. Watch the full interview below, he starts speaking about Drake around 10:55 marker.

Drake Passes Jay-Z On Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Chart With His Tenth #1 Single

This week Drake surpassed Jay-Z‘s record for the most #1 Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The collaboration with 2 Chainz, “No Lie“ track is what tipped the scale in Drake’s favor (10). Not far behind are Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West. This is a huge accomplishment for Drizzy. Congratulations!

101 Top Drake Songs To Listen To (Fan Post)

When I began compiling a list of the the top 101 Drake songs, I conferred with several colleagues and learned there were many differing opinions about what songs should be on the list. I briefly toyed with the idea of pitting all of Drake’s loyal fans among my co-workers against one another in a Hunger Games fight-to-the-death scenario against the backdrop of Times Square. However, not wanting to wind up in the slammer, I concluded that the most diplomatic and least murderous thing to do would be to invite my office pals to submit their own lists. I thought it best to try to preserve a civil work environment, not to mention my longstanding policy of avoiding contact with the Human Resources department. So while we didn’t battle it out in a conference room or some such nonsense, each one of us faced an internal battle — choosing the top Drake songs out of the hundreds of favorites. As you can tell from the results of our efforts, it wasn’t easy (some of us got a little greedy with 20 strong lists). While the usual suspects like “Find Your Love” and “Show Me a Good Time” made appearances, there were a few surprises in the music tastes among the Drizzy Drake office folk.

We went back as far as 2004. A lot of Drake’s songs were, of course, featured on mixtapes. In some songs, he is featured with other artists. But regardless of how he is involved with the song, one thing is obvious — the man makes great music. So, in no particular order, I am pleased to present my take on the top 101 songs by Drake.

1. Drake – “Something”. Call me weird, but I’ve got to say I love Drake’s singing more than his rapping, though some may choose to differ. “Something”, from way back in 2___, is one very incredible song that I still find myself listening to, even now in 2012.

2. Drake – “Don’t U Have A Man” (featuring Dwele & Little Brother). The Comeback Season mixtape has some true gems on it that even now feel like classics. This song shows a side of Drake that not many people know, the side which is almost borderline neo-soul. Even in that genre, he manages to shine like a star.

3. Drake – “Crew Love” ft. The Weeknd. Have you ever been in love? I mean real love? Unconditional love? Only some of us have truly been blessed to know what that feels like. This song embodies that feeling.

4. Drake – “Find Your Love”. This one showed Drake’s maturation into a respectable singer, rapper and overall performer.

5. Drake – “Enjoy Ya Self” featuring Slakah the Beatchild. Amazing song! Drake doesn’t use the voice box but instead he lets his natural talent do what it does best.
