Drake and Kanye West have been dropping hints about a joint project, one that has the potential to be a full length collaboration between 2 of the best known rappers anywhere around the globe. Both have been involved in individual collaborations with other artists but now it appears that the rap duo may be teaming up together. In 2011 West teamed with Jay Z for Watch The Throne, and in 2015 Drizzy partnered with Future on What A Time To Be Alive. West and the Toronto rapper have also paired up on tracks in the past, such as Pop Style and Forever by Drake and Blessings by Big Sean just to name some.
During OVO Fest in August, the signature music festival held by Drake’s OVO Sound, Kanye first started dropping hints. West questioned the crowd, asking fans “I got one question for you… Is y’all ready for this album? I’m not talking about Pablo. I wasn’t talking about Views. I wanna ask y’all right now, y’all ready for this album?” Drizzy added clarification by telling the crowd “What my brother was asking before was, are you ready if we make an album? That’s what he was asking.”
Next billboards that paired the OVO Sound logo and the G.O.O.D. Music logo together started to show up, with the billboards containing random phrases around the Calabasas neighborhood where both rappers have residences. Hopefully fans will get to hear some sneak previews of what West and Drake are working on in the near future. In the meantime Drizzy and Taylor Swift have been very chummy, and some have been concerned that this could be a deal breaker for West or that it means Rihanna is no longer the love of Drake’s life, but both of these worries seem blown out of proportion.

So far 2016 has been a big year for Drake, big by the standards of any artist, and December will make it an even bigger one for the Toronto rapper. Between the touring, tracks and album streaming, and the success of his latest album Views Drizzy is on fire. With 2 hits that quickly climbed to #1 not that long ago, One Dance by Drake and Work by Rihanna which features the 6 God, Drake has had full forward momentum in recent months and it doesn’t look like that will change any time soon. 2016 will end on a very positive note just like the year began.
One Dance, the hit track off of Views, could very well hit 1 billion streams before the current year ends as it stands at more than 950 million right now. This catchy tune is already Spotify’s most played song ever, and each day many millions of streamers just add to the numbers. Drizzy also has a playlist project in the works called More Life that is expected to be released next month, and whenever the Toronto rapper releases music the public quickly starts listening and the tracks start climbing the charts. There are still few details known about the project but everything Drizzy touches seems to turn to gold and platinum and this is not expected to be any different.
In early December the 59th annual Grammy Award nominees will be announced, and Drake is already a sure bet for nominations in a number of various categories. To date the 6 God has been nominated at least 27 times in his career, and Views is seen as the biggest album and title for 2016. The hit track One Dance off the album is almost unstoppable and sure to earn the Toronto rapper plenty of kudos.
Drake and The Weeknd have both received recognition at the 2016 MTV Eurpoean Music Awards. The event was held on November 6 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Both artists managed to snag their share of awards and honors. Starboy, the hot new track from The Weeknd, earned Best Video. Drizzy went against Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, G-Eazy, and Future to win the award for Best Hip-Hop act.
Fans were treated to a performance of the hit song Starboy by The Weeknd during the 2016 MTV European Music Awards. The artist performed inside a dome that looked like a planetarium. This may indicate what fans should expect during the new tour from The Weeknd set to start in February 2017, Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour. The tour runs from February to June of next year and includes stops in the USA, Canada, and Europe.
An Instagram post meme that Rihanna posted about her exes has everyone buzzing in the comments about who the Barbados beauty was discussing in the meme, and questioning whether Drake is referenced in the post. On October 8 RiRi posted on Instagram “None of my exs are married or in happy relationships, so it’s safe to say that I wasn’t da problem.” The post is vague, and it has a hashtag trophy emoji as the caption. Could Rihanna be dissing Chris Brown? Is she talking about Drizzy? It is impossible to tell from the Instagram post which ex Rihanna is talking about. Fans who hope to see the Toronto rapper and the Umbrella singer together as a couple have been posting mixed comments on the post ever since it became public.
During the Summer Sixteen tour concert in Toronto Friday Drake had some choice words for the crowd, as well as the usual excitement and plenty of fantastic Drizzy tunes. Some of the tour shows had to be postponed because of an injured ankle but the Toronto rapper was back in his stride when he hit the stage in the 6. Drake’s tour is winding down but it was clear that the energy from the crowd was feeding the rapper so he gave a shout out at his competition from the stage. “Other rappers, I don’t give a fuck about none of these other singers. Nobody can talk to me ’cause I’m from the 6. I go over there by myself, and I do it every single motherfucking time, boy.”
Drizzy is not the first rapper to speak out to their competition from a public forum without actually naming names, but over the last few years there have been a number of feuds between the 6 God and other rappers and artists. Joe Budden, Meek Mill, and Tory Lanez are just a few of the fellow artists that have had a feud with Drizzy, so his shout out could have been aimed at any of them or even all of them collectively.
A number of well known artists and popular songs were nominated for the Best Hip Hop video at the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards but Drake took the day, and the award. “I Got the Keys” from DJ Khaled’s with Future and Jay Z, “Panda” by Desiigner, “Famous” by Kanye West with Rihanna, “Watch Out” by 2 Chainz, and “All the Way by Up” Fat Joe & Remy Ma with Infrared and French Montana were all nominated but “Hotline Bling” by Drake. Snoop Dog received the I am Hip Hop Icon Award, and there were cyphers presented by BET during the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards. As the awards ceremony went on the cyphers slowly revealed the names of artists such as Young M.A., Lil Wayne, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Dave West as well as a number of others.
Lil Wayne is set to release a handwritten memoir from his time in Rikers Island when the rapper was serving a sentence for gun charges, titled Gone ‘Til November, and in it Dwayne Carter Jr. offers plenty of drama and gossip. Wayne also discusses finding out while behind bars that his girl slept with Drake, although the encounter happened before she hooked up with Lil Wayne. Despite the timeline Carter was still royally pissed at the news and explained that she did not tell him about the Drizzy escapade even though it was in her past.
In the journal entry with the title Bad Day Lil Tunechi wrote “No writing, prayer, Bible, sleep. Another one.”. Another entry called As a Man around the same time explained that “ I woke up still feeling f–ked up about the f–ked-up day that I had. Hell is what it was! I’m used to arguing with my girl on a daily basis…but finding out that she f–ked Drake was the absolute worst thing I could’ve found out.” Weezy continued with “As a man, honestly, that s–t hurt…and not because it was Drake. It could’ve been any man and it would’ve hurt the same. She said it happened way before we got together, but she just never told me. When Drizzy came to see me, he was like, ‘Yeah, it’s true…Don’t f–k with her like that ’cause I did f–k her.’ Damn! At that point, it didn’t matter to me when it f–king happened…because the f–king happened!” Lil Wayne made peace with the news though, shown in the entry “As a man I’ll admit that s–t really f–ked me up, but hey, f–k that ho! Love is blind, that’s why I say make sure that bitch is a seeing-eye dog.”
Drake has a new short film that will be premiered on September 30 called Please Forgive Me, and a recently released poster for the film from Apple Music shows the Toronto rapper looking abused and beat up. There is blood trickling down the artist’s face. The poster is further confirmation that the new Drake film was inspired by the popular album Views. Anthony Mandler was the director for the film, and Noah 40 Shebib produced the movie and produced music for the soundtrack as well.
The popular single “For Free”, a collaboration between Drizzy and DJ Khaled, has been certified by the RIAA with a platinum rating. The track can be found on Khaled’s latest album Major Key, and it has kept the Billboard Hot 100 charts popping all summer long. This is not the first platinum hit that DJ has had either. Some of his other tracks which have reached this level include :I Wish You Would”, :I’m So Hood”, “We Takin Over,”, “I’m On One,” and “All I Do Is Win”.
Major Key has been an incredibly successful album and it also has the track “I Got the Keys” which features Future and Jay Z. DJ Khaled recently released his video for the song “Nas Album Done”, and the video was shot in the Bahamas and features Nas. Khaled was also recently named as the host for the current BET Hip Hop Awards and it is no secret that he will be burning hot for the rest of 2016.
