Did You Know These Songs Were Written by Drake?

Drake has a very extensive discography, with a wide range of genres and styles to his credit, but there are some songs that you probably did not realize were written by the Toronto rapper because they are performed by other artists. 6 songs that were actually written by Drizzy include:

 1. Melania Fiona – I’ve Been That Girl

When the 6 God was still just a struggling artist working on DeGrassi High and making the show into a cult hit this wasn’t all he was doing. Drake also performed as part of The Renaissance, a group that created music. The band did not go anywhere but “I’ve Been That Girl” did. Drizzy co-wrote the song with Melania Ford, who performs it on her LP The Melania Ford Life.

2.Kanye West- Facts, 30 Hours, and Father Stretch My Hands

Life of Pablo, the 7th studio album by Kanye West, includes credit to Drake for songwriting but many may have missed this fact. The album lists Drizzy as a co-writer for the tracks Facts and 30 Hours. A tweet from West gave praise to the Toronto rapper, stating , “I wanna thank my brother Drizzy for helping me on 30 Hours & Father Stretch My Hands. Drake would come by and just help, no strings. Future also came by to write. We all got new shit together that’s gonna drop soon.”

3.Rita Ora- R.I.P.

In the beginning songstress Rita Orr needed tracks to gain attention and make her an international sensation in the world of pop music, and Drake came to the rescue by co-writing R.I.P. Some speculated that Drizzy intended the track for Ri-Ri but Orr said that this was not true in a Sunday Times interview in 2012. “R.I.P. wasn’t written for Rihanna. But even if it was played to her, I don’t care. As soon as I heard it, I said it was mine. I was going to fight for that song.”

4.Beyonce- Mine

The 6 God and Queen Bey wrote Mine together, with some help from Majid Jordan and Noah “40” Shebib of the OVO crew. This track was featured on the self titled album that Beyonce released in 2013 and it became a big hit.

5. Alicia Keys- Un-thinkable (I’m Ready)

Many do not realize that the hit 2010 album The Element of Freedom released by Alicia Keys contains Drake’s influence in the track Un-thinkable (I.m Ready). When discussing this hit that he co-wrote Drizzy explained to BET “It is [about Minaj], I’m not gonna lie …The concept came from a conversation that we had, or conversations we have. I wrote it based off two things: Number one, based off that, and then two, based off Alicia and Swizz and their situation, and it just seemed fitting. It was like the perfect concept.”

6.Jamie Foxx- Fall For Your Type

Jamie Foxx was so impressed when he heard the track Drake wrote called Fall For Your Type that the actor and singer decided to re-record the song and make it into a single on his fourth album Best Night of My Life. Many do not realize that Foxx is a singer as well as an actor, and he does Drizzy’s track justice.

Views From Drake Versus Lemonade From Beyonce: Which Had More Sales in a Single Day?

The anticipation for Views from Drake and Lemonade from Beyonce was intense. Which of these albums had more sales in one single day though? Drizzy won the competition and Views outsold Lemonade. In fact Drake sold more of his new album in the first 24 hours that it was available than Beyonce did for her entire first week album sales. In the last few years sales of albums have been slumped for the entire music industry yet Drizzy managed to sell a combined 750,000 sale and stream units in just 48 hours, and 575,000 copies of Views in just one single day.

Lemonade was named as the #1 album in America but Drake surpassed Beyonce with streams and sales. There is still time left for Views to reach the 1 million mark, and if Drizzy manages this he would be the first one since Adele to do so when she sold 3 million copies of 25 in November of last year.

Since Views has sold so many units already it is a sure bet to be #1 next week, and it is already on the right path to become the biggest 2016 debut album and the biggest album of Drizzy’s entire career. This just shows why Forbes recently named Drake as one of the 5 richest rappers of the year.

Spotify’s Annual Year in Review Released, Drizzy and RiRi Named Streams King and Queen

The annual year in review was recently released by Spotify and the results should not surprise anyone. Drake was named the most streamed artist of the year, no surprise with 1.8 billon in total streams for the artist. When it came to the highest number of streams in a single day the distinction went to Justin Bieber, and the album that was streamed the most was Beauty Behind the Madness by The Weeknd.

Rihanna was named the most streamed female artists in spite of the fact that she has not had a full album release in 2015, or even 2014 for that matter. Rihanna saw a little more than 1 billion streams without a full album. The Barbados beauty has had several hit singles this year though, and fans also sought to stream some cuts from her 2012 album as well. Rihanna is always a popular choice when it comes to music and since her studio album Anti has been put on hold and delayed this could explain the heightened interest in music by RiRi.

The annual year in review by Spotify may have turned out differently for Rihanna if either Adele or Taylor Swift were in the catalog for the music service, and either singer may have broken the number needed to top Rihanna. Taylor Swift released her last album, 1989, last year in 2014, and none of Swift’s music can be found in the Spotify catalog. The past albums released by Adele can be found in the Spotify catalog but her hit 25, just released this yea, is not listed. Either of these circumstances may have taken the crown as Queen of streaming from Rihanna. There were 3 female artists who were on the list behind RiRi who have also not had a full album release in 2015. These artists were Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande.
