YOLO! The acronym stands for “you only live once” and is typically linked to impulsive or irresponsible behavior, according to dictionary sites. The term became popular because of Drake‘s 2011 track, “The Motto”. Drake sings a verse in the Motto, “Now she want a photo, you already know, though/ You only live once: that’s the motto n***a, YOLO.”
On Tuesday, Drake uploaded two photos of products that have “YOLO” plastered on them from Walgreens to Macy’s and within the caption Drake asked stores to either cut the YOLO merchandise or cut him a check.
There are over 100 YOLO trademark requests, as well as many established companies named YOLO, one being YOLO restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. So the question is, should royalties be paid or not? This sounds a lot like Lil Wayne’s “Bling Bling”, but this acronymn has been around for a while.
