Drake and Kanye West have been dropping hints about a joint project, one that has the potential to be a full length collaboration between 2 of the best known rappers anywhere around the globe. Both have been involved in individual collaborations with other artists but now it appears that the rap duo may be teaming up together. In 2011 West teamed with Jay Z for Watch The Throne, and in 2015 Drizzy partnered with Future on What A Time To Be Alive. West and the Toronto rapper have also paired up on tracks in the past, such as Pop Style and Forever by Drake and Blessings by Big Sean just to name some.
During OVO Fest in August, the signature music festival held by Drake’s OVO Sound, Kanye first started dropping hints. West questioned the crowd, asking fans “I got one question for you… Is y’all ready for this album? I’m not talking about Pablo. I wasn’t talking about Views. I wanna ask y’all right now, y’all ready for this album?” Drizzy added clarification by telling the crowd “What my brother was asking before was, are you ready if we make an album? That’s what he was asking.”
Next billboards that paired the OVO Sound logo and the G.O.O.D. Music logo together started to show up, with the billboards containing random phrases around the Calabasas neighborhood where both rappers have residences. Hopefully fans will get to hear some sneak previews of what West and Drake are working on in the near future. In the meantime Drizzy and Taylor Swift have been very chummy, and some have been concerned that this could be a deal breaker for West or that it means Rihanna is no longer the love of Drake’s life, but both of these worries seem blown out of proportion.
The new single from Future named Used to This includes Drake rapping the lyrics “Tatted on me but this shit is deeper than the surface”, and it is no secret that Drizzy loves his tats. Now the Toronto rapper has some new ink on his shoulder that he is showing off. The new tattoo on the 6 God features a fiery skull and it has the caption “unruly” under the image. The ink was placed by Dr. Woo, the well known tattoo artist, and an image of the new tat was posted to instagram with the message “Hot skulllll for the Boy.”
This is not the first Drizzy tattoo to hit the headlines either, Drake and Rihanna had matching shark ink recently to symbolize a date to an aquarium that the power couple went on together. For the date the Toronto rapper rented out the entire Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada in Toronto for intimacy, and he also gave Riri a stuffed shark as a memento as well. It is no secret that there are strong feelings between Drake and Rihanna but it is not possible to tell yet just where these feelings will lead. Other tats that Drizzy has had placed in the past include the CN Tower in Toronto, an emoji that shows two praying hands with the number 6, and numerous faces on his back including a mug shot of his father and a picture of Aaliyah.
So far 2016 has been a big year for Drake, big by the standards of any artist, and December will make it an even bigger one for the Toronto rapper. Between the touring, tracks and album streaming, and the success of his latest album Views Drizzy is on fire. With 2 hits that quickly climbed to #1 not that long ago, One Dance by Drake and Work by Rihanna which features the 6 God, Drake has had full forward momentum in recent months and it doesn’t look like that will change any time soon. 2016 will end on a very positive note just like the year began.
One Dance, the hit track off of Views, could very well hit 1 billion streams before the current year ends as it stands at more than 950 million right now. This catchy tune is already Spotify’s most played song ever, and each day many millions of streamers just add to the numbers. Drizzy also has a playlist project in the works called More Life that is expected to be released next month, and whenever the Toronto rapper releases music the public quickly starts listening and the tracks start climbing the charts. There are still few details known about the project but everything Drizzy touches seems to turn to gold and platinum and this is not expected to be any different.
In early December the 59th annual Grammy Award nominees will be announced, and Drake is already a sure bet for nominations in a number of various categories. To date the 6 God has been nominated at least 27 times in his career, and Views is seen as the biggest album and title for 2016. The hit track One Dance off the album is almost unstoppable and sure to earn the Toronto rapper plenty of kudos.
Young Dylan is this small 7-year old rapper that is lighting the internet up by singing his favorite rapper’s songs. Dylan resides in Annapolis, Maryland with his family, and he has actually been on television several times, his second appearance being on The Ellen Show.
Dylan has had a ton of attention online being featured online in various Twitter posts and through YouTube videos. Dylan has recently received a lot of attention for rapping some of Drakes songs, and he even plays up to the camera.
Young Dylan has the opportunity to meet Drake last summer during the “Summer Sixteen Tour” where Drake signed the little rapper’s threads and called the boy the “Real 6-God”.
Everyone in the audience was excited to see this young rapper perform “Child’s Play”. The first time that Young Dylan was on The Ellen Show he rapped “For Free”, which is Drake’s hit with DJ Khaled. This young gun wants to be a rapper when he gets older, and he has quite the fan base already.
Drake and The Weeknd have both received recognition at the 2016 MTV Eurpoean Music Awards. The event was held on November 6 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Both artists managed to snag their share of awards and honors. Starboy, the hot new track from The Weeknd, earned Best Video. Drizzy went against Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, G-Eazy, and Future to win the award for Best Hip-Hop act.
Fans were treated to a performance of the hit song Starboy by The Weeknd during the 2016 MTV European Music Awards. The artist performed inside a dome that looked like a planetarium. This may indicate what fans should expect during the new tour from The Weeknd set to start in February 2017, Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour. The tour runs from February to June of next year and includes stops in the USA, Canada, and Europe.
Views, the latest album released by Drake, has achieved more than 3 billion in Spotify streams. The fact that Views was an exclusive through Apple Music for the initial two week period after release makes this feat even more spectacular. The tracks on Views have been streamed more than 3 billion times. On April 28 Drizzy fans could begin streaming Views on Apple Music, and it was not until May 13 that the tracks were available through Spotify and other streaming services. Views debuted on the Billboard 200 chart in the #1 spot on My 21, and it stayed in the top 5 for the next 26 weeks. This week it is at #7.
One Dance, one of the top hits on Views, has earned Drake 924.5 million streams and has made the song the most streamed track ever on the Spotify service. Hotline Bling is in second with 556 million streams, and Too Good earned 426.5 streams. Even Summers Over Interlude, the track on Views streamed the last, had 23.5 million streams from fans. Hotline Bling recently joined the somewhat exclusive billion views club on YouTube as well, putting this track up there with Blank Space, Gangnam Style, and other popular hits.
Is a Drake Taylor Swift musical collaboration in the works? It is no secret that both artists have been spending time together, and Swift even managed to get some time with Drizzy’s mom at his 30th birthday bash, but their relationship is anything but romantic. An anonymous source discussed the situation with E! News, saying “The music they have been working on is different and very catchy. They’ve both been having a great time in the studio.” If a collaboration is in the works then Apple Music will probably benefit because both artists have close ties to the music giant.
Meek Mill candidly discussed his feud with Toronto rapper Drake, and explained to Taxstone during a podcast interview what led up to the beef between artists. A little over an hour and a half long the interview covers Drizzy, Nicki Minaj, diss tracks, touring, and his public beefs. The MC from Philly talked about how the bad blood started between him and Drake, saying that the two were initially friends but that the relationship soured after Mill was released from prison and there was no word from the 6 God for over a year. “We kinda had a relationship. I haven’t seen him since I came home. You know, me and the Nicki situation and I haven’t ran into you yet.”
Meek also told Taxstone that things got really bad when Drake was supposed to show up at a Meek Mill concert in the MC’s hometown of Philly but never came through. “I had a show in Philly. He was supposed to come to my show. They said they don’t know about it … I had this shit set up for four months. The day of, nobody comes through and call me so I’m just backstage looking like a fraud to everybody I told.” Mill explained that things are cool between him and Drake now, and that their beef is in the past.
Mill also addressed supposed insults and slights that Drizzy sent his way in the diss track Back to Back, especially the line “Is that a world tour or your girl’s tour?”. Mill said that he doesn’t understand why the lyrics are supposed to be an insult, stating “Is it a bad thing that I have a go-getter as my lady?. Yeah, I’m on my girl tour. We getting right every night, she’s probably making like 450 or some shit like that. It’s lit. … So when I see people tweet, like, ‘That was murder.’ I’m like, we wish for shit like this where we come from.”
